Kave
2024
mänty ja kupari / pine and copper
korkeus / height 39cm
Jalusta on vanhaa vuosikausia ulkoilmassa patinoitunutta kuparia.
Kapeet (singular: kave) are air spirits of Finnish folklore. In texts from the 16th and 17th centuries, they are described as spirits from Häme who narrow the moon and cause lunar eclipses. This sculpture is made from the rootstock of a pine tree from Tuusula. The resin in the pine roots keeps the core of the stump – already completely rotten on the surface – protected from decay for a long time. The stand is made of old copper that has picked up patina after years outdoors.
